Protection, Monitoring and Control of Shunt Reactors

The WG B5.37 Technical Brochure (TB) provides educational material for those engaged in specifying, applying, protecting, monitoring, and controlling shunt reactors. Shunt reactor construction, electrical theory, application, and effects on power transmission systems, and fault types, protection schemes, reactor switching and the impact on protection. Mechanical protection and monitoring such as dissolved gas analysis and fire protection are also included. Because oil-immersed shunt reactors are similar in construction to power transformers, this report makes some comparisons between them for clarification.
