Recommendations for additional testing for submarine cables from 6 KV (UM=7.2 KV) up to 60 KV (UM = 72.5 KV)

Continuous growth of the offshore renewable market has triggered a desire to increase the inter array cable voltage up to 60 kV (Um = 72.5 kV). Industrial cost pressure has led to cable designs at these voltage levels for HV submarine cables with either non-traditional water barriers or wet cable designs. Existing IEC standards and CIGRE recommendations do not cover all relevant aspects of new cable constructions up to U_m=72,5 kV. An IEC Task Force was established to write a new standard covering these types of cables. The Task Force soon recognized that some important topics specific for certain MV cable designs are inadequately covered by these documents.
