Trenchless technologies

Use of trenchless technologies for the installation of energy cables has become more frequent in the last decade in order to allow for crossing of water courses, underground services and to cross very congested areas. As these technologies are relatively complex and require specific knowledge, the WG B1.48 has prepared a Technical Brochure with the aim of giving general guidance to the use of trenchless technologies for the installation of HV- cables. This Technical Brochure addresses the factors to be considered when deciding which trenchless technology is best suited to the task: Horizontal Directional Drilling, Microtunneling, Pipe ramming or Ploughing.
