The phase-out of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) as an insulating and arc quenching media in highvoltage switchgear has been mandated in several countries. Circuit-breakers and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) utilizing SF6 alternative gases have been developed to fulfill this requirement.
