Field Experiences with Surface Inspection and Control Algorithms Employed on Extruded HVDC Cable Accessory Installations
Quality Control (QC) of on-site cable installation processes, such as HVDC joint or termination installations, have traditionally focused on different HV testing methodologies. Today, new technologies are rapidly emerging that allow for a better, more direct control and feedback on geometric surface quality, employing metrology grade 3D scanning. This proprietary 3D surface inspection technique, analysing the full on-site prepared cable surface at 100 µm resolution at an accuracy down to 20 µm, employs subsequently a tailor-developed algorithm to generate a set of visualizations with acceptance criteria on the jobsite.
