DC Overhead Line Fault Ride-through Schemes Comparison in End-to-end VSC-HVDC System

In recent years, voltage source converter based high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) have emerged as a preferred solution for meeting large-scale power transmission demands and enabling grid interconnection. For the end-to-end VSC-HVDC system adopting the overhead line (OHL) solution, the DC OHL, which is exposed outdoors and has a long distance, is the part with the highest failure rate in VSC-HVDC system. An effective and cost-saving solution to achieve DC OHL fault ride through (FRT) is necessary, where hybrid modular multi-level converter (MMC) solution and the AC circuit breaker (ACCB) are widely used in engineering projects.
