The largest 1 Gvar STATCOM Deployment in the Korean Power System: Architecture, Control, and Operational Approach
Significant operational challenges are being experienced by the South Korean power grid because of demand–supply imbalances and limitations in transmission expansion, whereby voltage stability is identified as a key limiting factor for secure system operation. Under the uniform application of N-2 contingency criteria, these issues lead to massive generation curtailment, particularly in the East Coast and Southwestern regions.
