Online Dynamic Security Assessment – A Key to Enhancing Observability and Stability in IBR-dominated Power Systems
Power systems are undergoing significant transformation to integrate high penetration of variable renewable energy. This shift has introduced increasing complexity in maintaining grid stability. Grid operators are increasingly concerned about declining grid strength which critically impacts the grid’s ability to maintain stability under disturbances and effectively dampen oscillations. In the case of undamped oscillations or system instability, generators may lose synchronism and be disconnected, potentially triggering cascading failures and widespread blackouts within seconds. Consequently, there is growing demand from system operators for system security assessment in real-time operation.
