Operational Experience with Synchrophasor-Based Oscillation Monitoring at RTE France
Oscillations in electrical quantities are inherent to power systems and arise from interactions among system components, and are defined by the system’s electromechanical modes. Poorly damped oscillations can adversely affect power quality, equipment health, and the protection system. Since modal damping varies with operating conditions, continuous monitoring of system modes is essential for maintaining stability. Motivated by this, RTE, the French transmission system operator, has implemented an online Oscillation Monitoring System
