Material Analysis of Composite Hollow Core Insulator Housings after Long-Term Ageing Test

Composite hollow core insulators (CHCI) have been applied since many decades for HV equipment and in substations. Compared with porcelain insulators, composite insulators offer improved service performance regarding failure safety in case of earthquakes / network failures and pollution flashover performance. Thanks to their durable and sustainable design, CHCIs can be in operation for several decades even under harsh environmental conditions, such as strong UV radiation, precipitation, severe dew, wind loads, temperature cycles and heavy pollution. Since environmental conditions might be unique and dedicated to a certain region, long-term outdoor tests may play an important role to confirm reliable service performance of
