Dissolved Gas Analysis of a Gas to Liquid Hydrocarbon Transformer Oil under Thermal Faults

Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) is probably the most effective technique applied to transformers for condition monitoring and incipient fault diagnosis. Typical fault gases in transformers are H2, CH4, C2H4, C2H6, C2H2 CO and CO2, and different key gases indicate fault types and amount of fault levels. Recently new inhibited transformer oil is developed based on the latest Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) technology by hydrocracking of waxy hydrocarbons generated from synthesis gas. This oil contains mainly paraffinic (primarily iso-paraffinic) hydrocarbon molecules. DGA characteristics of GTL oil under different fault conditions need to be studied.
