The potential of hybrid systems for off-grid power supply
In many decentralized power systems utility-scale or private diesel-fuelled generators are often used. Diesel fuel is an expensive resource (often due to high delivery charges) and not always readily available in rural and remote areas. Electricity demand in rural, remote and island areas is increasing as the result of the development process. On the international market energy prices fluctuate and governments are increasingly forced to reduce dependency on fossil fuels (or subsidize their high prices).
