Very-fast transients in gas-insulated substations — modelling, simulation, measured characteristics, electromagnetic interference and compatibility

This Technical Brochure (TB) provides comprehensive guidance for the modelling and simulation of Very-Fast Transients (VFTs) in Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS). It develops practical modelling guidelines for electromagnetic transient (EMT) -type and EMT- finite element method (FEM) interfaced simulation approaches, covering major GIS components and high frequency electromagnetic phenomena. Eleven benchmark cases are established to validate and compare EMT, FEM and finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation methods against field measurements. The TB also investigates VFT-induced electromagnetic interference (EMI) in secondary control, protection and instrumentation systems and proposes electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for consideration in future IEC standard revisions.…
