Communication concepts for control systems

SCADA systems have been in service for many years in power utilities for operation and control of their electrical systems. Traditionally data communications for telecontrol within SCADA systems for electricity utilities is based on well proven solutions. Nevertheless they continue to evolve due to recent developments in telecommunications, computers and standardisation areas which have allowed the addition of more features and flexibility, finally challenging the traditional solution.
