Ageing of the system - Impact on planning

In the past the driving force for system odernisation has been load growth : equipment was replaced because its rating or characteristics were no longer compatible with the changing requirements due to steady and considerable load growth. Nowadays in the low growth environment that prevails in many countries - many assets are rated sufficiently to fulfil their roles in electricity transmission up to the expiry of their lifetimes.
