Application guide for the insulation coordination of Voltage Source Converter HVDC (VSC HVDC) stations

This Technical Brochure (TB) describes the general principles and arrester configurations for the most common configurations and topologies of the VSC HVDC converter stations, namely bipolar and symmetrical monopolar MMC. The sources and types of overvoltages,  common arrester arrangement, modeling requirements, study tools and recommendations on the required insulation margin and withstand levels for various equipment are provided.
