Measurement-Based Electromagnetic Modelling of Phase-Shifting Transformers with Limited Design Data

Developing accurate electromagnetic models for low-frequency transient studies is often restricted by limited access to proprietary design data. This paper presents a methodology for modelling a 600 MVA phase-shifting transformer (PST) using a topological model approach based on Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) results and fundamental core geometry. By successfully correlating simulated phase currents to real-world measurements, this paper proves that DC hysteresis data can represent the magnetic behaviour for PST modelling. Even without detailed transformer design data, this approach yields results consistent with FAT data, ensuring model reliability.
