A Study on the Long-term Reliability of Spacer Type Low Power Instrument Transformers

The digitalization of substations has become essential to ensure efficient and reliable operation of advanced power grids. Traditionally, conventional instrument transformers have been employed for voltage and current measurement in Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) for protection and measurement purposes. However, precise voltage and current measurement in digital substations require Low-Power Instrument Transformers (LPITs). Currently used LPIT designs typically install voltage and current sensors inside the GIS tank; however, the ongoing trend toward more compact GIS configurations requires smaller, easier-to-install alternatives.
