Development and Application of Hourly Values for the Static Rating of High-Voltage Overhead Lines
The static design rating of an overhead line is determined with the well-known heat balance equation from CIGRE [1]. The input for this calculation is typically based on conservative assumptions regarding the ambient temperature, effective wind speed and solar irradiation. Grid congestion issues in the Netherlands have introduced the need to increase the static ratings of overhead lines, resulting in the exploration of alternative approaches to determine the static design rating. For this, historical weather data has been analysed.
