Transmission Clusters in Northern Ireland – Optimising the Connection of New Renewable Generation
In 2025, Northern Ireland has an installed capacity of approximately 1800 MW of renewable generation, which delivered 43% electricity from renewable sources (RES-E). There is a legal target of 80% RES-E by 2030, on the way to Net Zero in 2050. Meeting the 80% target will require at least the same amount of renewable generation capacity to connect again.
