Dynamic Power System Areas Formation for Continuous Inertia Estimation

Renewable sources of energy gain more importance in the generation mix of power systems all over the world replacing conventional energy sources based on synchronous generators. Thus, the system inertia becomes an important parameter to monitor for the proper operation of emerging power systems. Online inertia estimation techniques involve clustering the nodes of the power system into several areas with similar behaviour in terms of grid frequency variability and determine inertia for those entire areas. Thus, choosing the right areas is very important in achieving the results.
