New approaches for enhancing durability of transmission line tower foundations

The problem of early deterioration of some of the reinforced and pre stressed concrete structures has come to the forefront in recent years. In most of the advanced countries nearly 40% of the construction industry's budget is spent on repair, restoration and strengthening of the damaged concrete structures. All this has tarnished the image of concrete as a durable or maintenance free material. As India has a large coastal line and a number of cities and metropolis located in the vicinity of coastal belt, the civil structures including TLT (Transmission Line Tower) foundations in these areas are witnessing early deterioration.
