The Threat of Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (IEMI) to the Control of Supergrids
In the United States preliminary plans have been developed to build a supergrid at 765 kV between Chicago and the upper Midwest to access future wind generators. It is clear that at this voltage level, there will be a great deal of power flowing through a relatively small number of substations, making security concerns such as from Intentional Electromagnetic Interference (IEMI) more important than ever.
