Current Carrying Capacity Analyses of Power Cables

In this study, the current carrying capacity analyses of the 380 kV XLPE insulated high voltage underground power cable system is achieved. The thermal resistance of bedding material and the clearance between cables are determined as the parameters affecting the ampacity of cables. The analyses are realized by the analytical method which is given in IEC-60287 and Finite Element Method (FEM) by using Comsol Multiphysics software. The results of the investigation that are obtained from two different methods are presented, comparatively.
