The tutorial focus on the basic flux elements that contribute to the total flux density of the magnetic core of hydro generators, with specific focus on the air gap magnetic flux density, stator core saturation, pole saturation, rotor rim saturation and total excitation current at now load. During the refurbishment of hydrogenerators in power houses, there is sometimes an opportunity to increase the generator power output by replacing stator and rotor windings but maintaining the original magnetic core. Higher power output means that higher flux densities of up to two Tesla is produced in many sections of the core and poles.
