System Strength and Inertia Scarcities: A Comprehensive Assessment of the Chilean Power System Towards High IBR Penetration
The Chilean National Electric System is rapidly transitioning towards high penetration of inverter-based resources, which leads to the displacement of synchronous generation. This evolution can reduce short-circuit strength and inertia, increasing the likelihood of weak-grid behaviour and control interactions during disturbances, while the national technical framework for IBR performance continues to evolve.
